2007: Year of Conception
And Then . . .
We meet at 6:30 PM the 2nd Wednesday of each month. We can accommodate date changes if given enough notice and with 100% agreement.
Our meetings start with catch up chat over wine supplied by the hostess. Once we all arrive, we congregate in the meeting area and commence with a Wiki Reading of the author's bio. We eventually meander into unstructured discussions on anything about the book that took our fancy. Each member may have selected a passage she absolutely loved for whatever reason to read to the rest of us. Much discussion ensues. (We are open to ideas for enhancing discussions, by the way. I find reading a favorite passage works well.) Throughout the meeting we munch on nibblies prepared by the Hostess followed by decaf coffee or tea and something sweet. We wrap up the meeting by rating the book out of 10 based on whether or not we'd recommend it to anyone else.
We rotate Hosting. The Oak Bay Beach Hotel has become a convenient venue for meetings when we are feeling overwhelmed, stressed and pressed. Turns out the cost is about the same as home hosting with the added benefit of being served!! The Royal Yacht Club or the Victoria Golf Club, or Union Club might also be comfortable alternatives.
If a member is unable to attend she notifies all members via email. I will post her absence on our homepage. <-- ya, I gotta remember to do this!
If a member is unable to complete the book, she brings a bottle of wine to the meeting. (One year I bought a case of wine! It was not a good year for reading. . . for me, that is!)
Historically, we collected Baby Things for our December Meeting for donation to The Mustard Seed.

But Why?
To inspire reading books
To discuss books read
To explore different genres
To enjoy each others’ company, support and friendship
To disagree
To talk
To drink wine
To laugh
To eat
To exchange shoes and clothes? (That was a different meeting!)
Our Book Selection Process
It would be a good idea for new members to view all the tabs in this website to ensure they have not selected books that have already been consumed by the members who have been attending since 2007. . . . having said that, speaking for myself, I probably wouldn't remember anything read in 2007, 2008, 2009 and then there was the year I bought a case of wine . . . . so really, this is just a suggestion. If a book is THAT good it's probably worth a re-read anyway!
We read from all categories and all genres: Classics, Short Stories, Mysteries, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry . . . . . altho' we have never selected a book of poems. hmmmmm!
